Terms of use

The agreement between you and the people who run Quiny when you make an account and build with it. Written to be read.

These terms

These terms cover your use of Quiny, the service that builds mobile apps from a conversation. “We” means the people who run Quiny, and “you” means the person or business with the account. By creating an account, you agree to them.

Early access

Quiny is new and still changing. Features may change, pause or stop, and there may be mistakes. Don't rely on Quiny as the only copy of anything important.

Your account

  • You need to be old enough to make a contract where you live, and at least 18.
  • Give a real email address, keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account.
  • You're responsible for what happens under your account.

Cost

You pay for Quiny with credits, bought through a monthly plan and shared by all your apps. The work Quiny does on your apps takes credits from your balance, whoever starts it: answering you, building, fixing what goes wrong, pictures, research and dictation. Our own work doesn't, such as updates we make to every app, or our team helping you. The AI features inside your apps run through Quiny on Convex's AI Gateway, and they take credits too. The pricing page shows each plan's and top-up's price and credits.

  • Plans: a plan is paid monthly or yearly, in advance, and renews every month or year until you cancel it. It gives its credits each month, yearly plans too, and they expire at the end of each month, and when the plan ends.
  • Changing plan: an upgrade starts a new month at once, and the plan credits you haven't used come off its price at what you paid for them. A downgrade starts at your next renewal.
  • Canceling: cancel any time from Manage billing on the Plan and credits page in the studio. Your plan runs to the end of the month or year you've paid for, then ends, and a yearly plan keeps giving its credits each month until then. If a renewal payment has failed, canceling ends it at once.
  • Failed payments: if a renewal payment fails, Quiny pauses its work on your apps while Stripe tries your card again for about two weeks. If it still fails, your plan ends.
  • Top-ups: a top-up is a one-off payment for more credits. You need a plan to buy one, and not while a renewal payment is failing. Top-up credits don't expire, and they're used after your plan's.
  • Running out: when your balance reaches zero, Quiny stops working on your apps until you have more credits. Your apps keep working, but their AI features stop. Work that's already running finishes, and what it costs past zero takes your balance below zero. Your next credits pay that back first.
  • Without a plan: nothing runs. Quiny stops working on your apps, and their backends stop, so your web apps and published apps stop working too, unless you've moved them into accounts of your own. Your top-up credits wait for your next plan, and a cost that lands meanwhile still comes off your balance.
  • Price changes: if we change your plan's price or credits, we email you, and your plan keeps its old terms until its first renewal at least 7 days after the change.
  • Tax: prices are in US dollars, before tax. Stripe adds any tax at checkout, and a business can enter its VAT ID there.
  • Payments: Stripe processes every payment for us. Your card details go to Stripe, not to us.
  • Refunds: refunds come only from us, so ask us, not Stripe. We refund at once a payment you get nothing for, such as a second plan paid for alongside the first. Any other refund is our decision, and it leaves your plan and credits as they are. To make up for a problem, we may give you credits instead.

Apple, Google Play and any other service you connect your apps to yourself have their own terms and prices. You deal with them directly.

What you make

  • What you write, and the text, images and data you give Quiny, stay yours.
  • You let us store and process them, and send them to the services that run Quiny, as far as that's needed to build and run your apps. The privacy page lists those services.
  • Your apps are published under your own Apple developer account. You're responsible for your apps: what they say, how they treat the people who use them, and whether they meet Apple's rules and the law, including any privacy policy they need.
  • While you build, your apps' code and databases are kept in Quiny's accounts. You can move them into accounts of your own from each app's Settings, at no charge.

What you can't do

  • Build apps that are illegal, deceptive, or harmful to the people who use them.
  • Use Quiny to write malware, send spam, or attack other systems.
  • Try to reach other people's apps or data, or get around Quiny's limits and credits.
  • Put other people's passwords or secrets into the chat.

We can suspend or close an account that breaks these rules. If we do, we'll tell you why unless the law or safety stops us, and the account isn't charged again.

Ending

You can stop using Quiny at any time, and cancel your plan as above. When you delete an app, it disappears from your account, but we keep its code and conversation for a while so it can be restored if you ask. If your account is deleted, its plan is canceled at once, and its credits go with it.

No guarantees

Quiny is provided as it is. Code written by an AI can have bugs, so test your app before your customers rely on it. As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect losses, such as lost profits or lost data, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the last twelve months.

Changes

We'll update these terms as Quiny changes and change the date at the top. If a change matters, we'll tell you before it applies.
